This app is designed for patients or friends and relatives of patients who have been diagnosed with gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) (otherwise known as a molar pregnancy). Though a very rare disease affecting a very small proportion of women in the UK, it can be an alarming diagnosis for patients and our app is designed to provide as much information as possible for patients, friends and family to improve their understanding of the condition, and help in making their experience of treatment and follow up easier and more understandable.

The app contains information about the background of the disease as well as types of treatment and side effects including chemotherapy. It also outlines follow up procedures involved after treatment as well as contact details for the GTD service.

The second part of the app comes in the form of a chemotherapy scheduler for those patients who require further treatment after initial treatment. It also allows one to record their tumour markers (blood HCG levels) for their own reference.

There is also a notes section that allows patients to jot down questions they may want to ask their doctor or oncologist at their next doctors appointment.

We hope this app will be useful to all those affected by this condition and serve as a useful information and guidance tool for patients.

Disclaimer

This app has been designed with patients receiving treatment at Charing Cross Hospital in mind. It is important to note there are two other gestational trophoblastic disease centres in the UK. These are the Sheffield Trophoblastic Disease Centre based at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield and the Dundee Trophoblastic Tumour Screening Centre at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The treatment and follow up protocols will vary from centre to centre, so if you are a patient being treated at one of these other sites, please speak to your consultant or specialist in more detail for treatment and follow up information. We hope you may still find the app helpful with regards to general information about your disease and general advice while on treatment.
